What we can accomplish

There are overwhelming needs throughout the world, and it often seems that there is little an individual can do that will make a real difference. But that is not true.

PIMA is focusing aid on a small, isolated island nation, and particularly the eastern-most of the scattered island groups that make up this country. The inhabited Line Islands (Christmas, Fanning, and Washington Islands) have very little resources, and it is a place where you as an individual can make a real and lasting difference.

Your donation will directly help to save the lives of children and adults in one of several areas where you may choose to help: medicines and medical supplies; communications equipment to allow the inhabitants of the outer islands to obtain medical support where needed; and transportation for those with medical emergencies or need more medical care than is available on the island where they live.

“With Pacific Islands Medical Aid (PIMA), you can make a significant and direct difference in individual lives!”

Volunteer your time

We are looking for qualified individuals to assist in the various needs we have on an ongoing basis. If you would like to help and fit one of the required positions below, please contact us today.

Medical Specialists Wanted

While the doctor and nurses in the Line Islands, Kiribati do their very best to deal with the medical problems they encounter, they are overwhelmed without adequate help.

Urgently needed medical specialists include:  anesthesia and anesthesia equipment;

gynecology; intensive care medicine; obstetrics; orthopedics; pediatrics, trauma and general surgery.

Nearly eight percent of children die before age 5 as a result of curable illnesses; children and adults break bones in a variety of ways, including falling from coconut trees, with little attention given to setting bones properly;  many young women die in childbirth; C-Sections are not performed by the nurses on the outer islands…

Flying Doctor Service (Licensed Small Aircraft Pilot & Plane)

Planes and small boats must be used to reach some of the most remote of Kiribati’s islands, where government supply ships seldom call. Most urgently needed is a small flying doctor program to reach the critically ill and suffering.
